The Anti-Contour: Strobing

Thanks to the Kardashian family, the art of the contour has transformed the way the everyday woman does her makeup. Undoubtedly, 2015 has been the year of the contour. I am pretty sure that every YouTube beauty vlogger has done at least one or two videos this year on how they accomplished their contour.

Strobing, is the enemy of the contouring trend. This makeup technique does not require you to carefully and painstakingly carve out the best angles for your face.

This technique is a little less science and more about enhancing your natural and beautiful glow. Essentially, you conceal and apply your foundation as you normally would. However, instead of adding dark and light powders to your face;  you use illuminating powders or bronzers to enhance your facial features.

Hot Hair: The Lob

With every season comes a feeling of something new; a rebirth you might say. While you can easily switch your wardrobe and even your make-up,  I would venture to guess that most women feel their “newest” and best when they step out of the hair salon with a new haircut.

 

A new haircut can change your entire style. Let’s pause for one second. While there are clothing trends which change regularly. A change in your hair “style” is something deep that changes your whole aura. Something a new trend could never do.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now the hottest hair style for the season, albeit a hairstyle that can actually transform from fall into in the summer is the Lob. The Lob, is a long bob that has been seen on celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Beyonce to Kerry Washington.

This shoulder-grazing style is perfect for the woman who does not want to come to it’s shorter, chin-grazing cousin, the bob.  A lob is perfectly coiffed for the woman who wants to be able to easily grow-out this hairstyle without that awkward in-between stage. LisaRaye Speaks Out on the Double Standard of Race Bias

Say what you want about actress LisaRaye but one thing she does not do is shy away from the truth.

During a recent radio interview on Houston’s 97.9 The Box, LisaRaye explained how she has grown to deal with relationships in the age of social media, and highlighting the reasons black women sometimes have to “brand” themselves differently than white women, particularly when it comes to dating.

“I have much thicker skin now. Before I used to read it and go, ‘That’s not true. They don’t know me,’ and it really used to stick to me,” she told hosts J Mac and Madd Hatta. “Now you kind of have to remove yourself a little more. And I like the people that are unapologetically them.”

McCoy then shifted to the different perceptions of a certain type of public persona for black women and white women. “Because we have different sides, ‘them’ and ‘us.’ And when it’s ‘them,’ they could do whatever they want to do and it’s like you could date five or six guys,” she said. “Like Taylor Swift. We know that she has went through a lot of people at her young age.”

McCoy referenced celebrities like Swift, who are largely celebrated for talking openly about an active dating life. Such candor coming from a black girl, McCoy notes, would likely have negative repercussions for her career.

“[Taylor Swift] sings about it all the time. Let that be a black girl and that’s a problem. Let somebody do a sex tape that’s a black girl and her career is ruined,” McCoy continued. “She’s not going to parlay it into fashion, into stores, and into reality shows, and marriage. So if we know this, to me that’s why we have to brand ourselves differently now.”
