Tiffany and Co Recruit Elle Fanning and Lupita Nyongo For Reshaping Campaign

Written by. Chalise Macklin

Tiffany and Co is known for providing men with that special, little blue box and bringing joy to many women’s lives. But their signature jewelry and legacy is in jeopardy. The company is experiencing falling profits and stock prices, according to a business report from Business of Fashion. The jeweler is on a mission to turn things around and has enlisted some A-list celebrities to help do so.

Former American Vogue creative director, Grace Coddington, joined the jewelry house as a creative partner to help with rebranding. Coddington has signed teen star Elle Fanning and Lupita Nyong’o on to represent the timeless brand along with models Natalie Westling and Christy Turlington. A historic moment for the company because this marks the first time celebrities have starred in a campaign. Each lady showcases a piece of the brand’s new “Tiffany T” collection. Nyong’o posted a preview of her ad, which will be released nationwide in September.

The reshaped concept is titled “Legendary Style.” Upcoming campaigns will feature women in the studio instead of their iconic ads that are black and white and feature women wearing their jewelry on New York streets. A re-launch of the company’s affordable “Love” collection by designer Reed Krakoff with the slogan “#lovenotlike” will also be released soon.

Tiffany and Co are hoping to attract a younger buyer, particularly millennials. The company also intends to introduce it to new consumers and get skeptics to reconsider.

Miss USA Pageant: More Than Just A Crown

Written by. Chalise Macklin

And the winner is….Miss District of Columbia, Deshauna Barber. Barber was crowned the new Miss USA Sunday night in Las Vegas. 52 contestants battled it out for the coveted crown and title. But Barber slayed the competition with her stage presence and strong interview skills. She made history as the first military member to ever snag the crown.

This year’s pageant seemed on the mend after the pageant endured a bit of controversy last year. Former pageant owner, Donald Trump, made some controversial comments about immigrants that lead to NBC and Univision cutting ties with the businessman and the organization. Following the Trump debacle, the organization experienced another hiccup during the Miss Universe Pageant when host, Steve Harvey, mistakenly announced the wrong winner.

The show made some changes to add a fresh feel and connect with the viewers. It was aired on its new home Fox, the organization added a new contestant, Miss 52 USA, and the fans at home served as the sixth judge. The unofficial theme of the night was “Confidently Beautiful” which all the ladies embodied. And showed the world the pageant is more than a competition.

group pic            Perhaps the most recognizable change to the pageant was the background story of the contestants. It was not only a way for the viewers and judges to get to know the contestants better, it also allowed little girls, teens, and young ladies to see how relatable the women are. The contestants are more than just beautiful women with killer figures. The women are entrepreneurs, athletes, philanthropists, and highly successful and educated women. Some of the ladies’ personal stories really resonated with issues many young girls face today such as: body shaming, anorexia, depression, and defying the odds. Young girls sometimes experience low self-esteem and have a difficult time navigating through their teen years. Those women personal stories can provide inspiration and empower all while wearing high heels.

Barber will start her preparation for the Miss Universe pageant. She said she plans to use her time as the reigning Miss USA to support veteran’s causes and tackle the issue of suicide and post-traumatic stress disorder among military members.

The Standard Of Beauty Could Be Changing

Written by. Chalise Macklin

Marilyn Monroe or Dorothy Dandridge were not a size zero and you don’t have to be either. Most women and girls are not naturally a size two, but many watch what they eat and exercise striving to get the “perfect” body.

“You think my worth is in not eating. As a society we can’t allow girls to live like that anymore, said model Nathalia Novaes in the trailer for Straight/Curve.

There is a very limited representation of women and their bodies in mainstream media. Straight/Curve, a documentary on body image, is trying to aid in changing the perception of beauty by pushing for body diversity in the fashion and beauty industry.

Former model, Jessica Lewis, is the producer of the documentary along with Jenny McQuaile who is also a producer and director. The documentary is being released during a defining time in the fashion and modeling world. Many beauty brands and designers are working to reinvent the standard of beauty. The movement is being called evolutionary and likely comes from the complaints that many ladies and girls have about the fashion industry not being inclusive to all women, and the backlash from some popular beauty ads. Recently, Victoria Secret came under fire for its “Perfect Body” campaign and the tagline was changed. Many more popular and high-end brands have received scrutiny for promoting their products with a limited scope of women’s beauty.

“It is not a vanity issue, but a serious public health issue,” said Claire Mysko (CEO, National Eating Disorders Association).

The average woman is a size 12-14, and representation for those women and plus size women remains scarce. For decades, beauty has been viewed as mostly white or fair skin women, who are thin. The “thin ideal” can be psychologically and physically damaging and divisive.

Straight/Curve is expected to be released in 2017. Once released, it is sure to kick the talk about body diversity into high gear. The creators are hoping the documentary will lead to more women and girls of all sizes, ages and ethnicities in campaigns, on billboards and magazines. The fashion industry may finally realize inclusivity is not only lucrative, but could help reduce self-esteem issues in girls, and women, and portray more realistic picture of what true beauty is.

Aaliyah’s Family Readies a Tribute Fragrance

Aaliyah TH

Undoubtedly, Aaliyah is one of those entertainers who left us too soon. With some of her major hits like “Rock the Boat”, “Come Over” still getting radio play, that’s just one way of keeping her alive in our minds and hearts; And in just a few months you’ll be able to get your hands on a new fragrance created in tribute by Aaliyah’s family.

For the release, the family paired with cosmetics company, Xyrena.

Aaliyah™ by Xyrena is the first and only official fragrance tribute to the Princess of R&B. Developed in close collaboration with Diane & Rashad Haughton (the late singer and actress’s mother and brother), Xyrena crafted a true aromatic tribute inspired by actual fragrances Aaliyah wore.Aaliyah by Xyrena is unisex but leans masculine, as Aaliyah favored traditional men’s scents in line with her signature, sexy tomboy image. The formula is also a hue of black which was Aaliyah’s favorite color. Aaliyah by Xyrena has base notes of vanilla, sandalwood, amber, and jasmine; middle notes of black pepper, violet and leather; with top notes of mint, lavender and mandarin.

I for one am very excited about this new Aaliyah fragrance and knowing that it was created by her family sits very well with me. Aaliyah’s family has been very vocal in the past about wanting to be involved with anything involving their sister/daughter and they have all the right in the world to do so. Hopefully one day we’ll get the right Aaliyah biopic with the greenlight from Aaliyah’s brother and mother.

By: Jarius Tommillson

Even though we are young and our skin has alot of elasticity, when we age our skin begins to tell the story of how old we really are. Instead of aging your skin faster by using products that does nothing for the body, utilize the right products that will keep your skin on fleek! Here is my list of 10 beauty secrets you should know by the age of 30. Whether you’re 18 or 88, these secrets are great for you!

  1. Visit your dermatologist on a regular basis. This has nothing to do with vanity. Your dermatologist is your best friend when it comes to keeping your skin in tip top shape!
  2. Remove your make up every night! Sleeping in your makeup is nasty and can clog your pores. Your skin should be able to breath at night when your resting.
  3. Use eye cream–EVERYDAY! The skin around our eyes are delicate and the first spot to show aging. Take care of this soft area by applying eye cream on a regular basis.
  4. Do not wash your hair everyday. When you wash your hair frequently, you are washing away sebum, the product of those tiny glands in your skin, which moisturizes and creates a water resistant barrier on your skin and scalp, and that results in your body is producing even more sebum to make up for what was washed away.
  5. Apply sunscreen RAIN or SHINE! No matter what the weather looks like outside, apply sunscreen. This is the best way to protect your skin for the harmful Sun.
  6. Eat food that is rich in antioxidants and drink plenty of water! Eating food that is rich in antioxidants is great for the skin because antioxidants has the ability to naturally detox. Not to mention drinking plenty of water flushes the system creating a cleaning appearance on the outside. If the inside is clean, the outside will reflex the same thing!
  7. Choose the right skin cream for your skin type. There are many products on the market that promise great results. Let’s be honest, everyone has a different skin type!
  8. Put down the tweezers! Over tweezing can damage your skin permanently!
  9. Give your hair a break from the HEAT!! Applying heat to your hair on a regular basis can damage your hair causing major breakage.
  10. Floss and visit your dentis regularly! Having healthy brushing habits can really take your teeth to the next level if you enjoy flaunting your pearly whites!
