I appreciate Beyoncé, not only for her music that empowers women to know their worth, but also her confidence as a southern woman who owns and loves her curves. Growing up I didn’t want to look like the tall thin fashion models. I aspired to Beyoncé for her confidence as a curvy woman, while carrying herself so gracefully. She showed me that it was okay to be voluptuous, sexy, and independent. Last night fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg presents singer Beyoncé with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award. In New York City the Council of Fashion Designers of America held an annual event recognizes the excellent contributions made to American fashion by people from different areas of the industry and related arts, with awards given in womenswear, menswear, and accessories as well as outstanding achievements in journalism, creative vision, and lifetime achievement. Beyoncé honored her mother, grandmother, and uncle, who instilled fashion in her at an early age. She stated how some designers did not want to cater to Destiny’s Child in the earlier years of their career, did not want to cater to the group, because they were curvy and new. So her mother and uncle hand made their costumes and red carpet looks with passion and love which made them stand out from the rest.  “When we were starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels, they didn’t really want to dress four black country curvy girls,” Beyoncé stated. “And we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams.” She felt loved and proud while accepting her award in a pinstriped, crystal Givenchy suit, while keeping the “Formation” trend going with a black wide-brim hat. After showing her gratitude to her mother she thanked designers for making people feel great.

Nudes and flesh tones are trending right now. Everything from nude under garments, nude lipsticks and shoes. Nudes are easy hues to wear because it’s an easy way to wear nothing at all. Wearing a nude dress, blouse, pants, or skirt appears to be more polished and chic and goes with a lot of different things. Nude is the new black.  Flesh tones have been inspiration for some of the top fashion designers, Balmain, Calvin Klein, Dolce and Gabbana, and Alexander McQueen. The key to wearing flesh tones is to keep the colors one shade lighter or darker than your skin tone. There are also many shades of nude, like beige nude, pink nude, olive green is considered as well, golden nude, and many more. It gives your look simplicity and elegance. Sometimes we find ourselves not being able to find something to wear, for me nude is the go to. Find a shade that compliments you and your personality, and accessorize it with statement pieces of different things like big hoop or dangling earrings, cuff bracelet, a high waist belt, a necklace or clutch. When wearing nudes, you want to make yourself stand out with the accessories you wear. Also nude shoes can literally be worn with anything! You can pair them with jeans and a cute top or a nice bodycon dress. Remember, nude is the new black. I hope my tips and trend report helped you guys and remember if he asks for nudes send it to him.

Courtesy of Chanel, fedora hats just made a comeback. Let’s be honest when was the last time we saw a fedora hat, especially on the catwalk or publicly. You can pair this hat with anything like a blazer and skinny jeans, a suit, or a cute baby doll dress.

Believe it or not we are always wearing something that was once in-fashion, but with a modern twist. Whether its oversized, flared, high-waist, or has a colorful pattern, everyone is rocking retro trends. Continue reading TBT: How to Rock Vintage Trends with a Modern Twist
