If you enjoyed the movie Dear White People, you’ll be happy to know that Netflix just ordered 10 episodes of a television rendition. The 30-minute comedy series will begin filming later this year and is scheduled for a 2017 debut.

For those who haven’t seen the movie, the show will have the same premise, set among a group of black students at a predominantly white Ivy League college where racial tension isn’t dealt with but instead swept under the rug. It also deals with the non-racial aspect of finding your individual way and path in life.

Justin Simien, who made his concept trailer for the movie back in 2012, used his tax refund to fund it. The trailer went viral on YouTube, and the $50,000 crowd-funded movie went to the Sundance Film Festival and won for breakthrough talent in 2014.

Simien will be writing all 10 Netflix episodes, something he’s sure to be excited about as he’s previously spoken of the desire to make the movie into a TV series similar to that of the iconic “A Different World” which ran on NBC from 1987-1993.

The show “Dear White People” will be produced by Lionsgate, the same production company that brought you Orange Is The New Black on Netflix, which has its fourth season return this summer in June.
