You thought the Grammy’s and the Oscar’s where fashion’s biggest nights then clearly you have never heard of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Exhibit, otherwise known as the MET Gala. The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event benifiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. This annual fundraiser started in the 1940’s as a small social event and by 1960 it expanded in the museum’s Great Hall. Former Vogue editor in chief Diana Vreeland had overseen the festivities in the 1970’s when it transformed into a celebrity event. The gala became more luxurious under the watchful eye of Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue magazine. Todays collaboration of couture and celebrities has turned the MET gala into fashions biggest night. The theme of this year is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” were fashion and technology collide. The hosts this year are Anna Wintour, chairwoman, Jonathan Ive, chief design officer of Apple, Taylor Swift and Idris Elba. This year we saw a lot of hair snatch out of the face, whether it was in a ponytail, pushed out of the face, or 4 buns; while allowing fashion take center stage. There was also a lot of metallic, sequins and feathers.
