What is it about the Barbie doll that makes it every little girl’s dream doll? Seriously? Growing up I know I was obsessed, and when my mom occasionally bought the knock-off version, I wasn’t the least bit impressed.
As little girls we loved them, but as we got older they’ve become more and more controversial. Everything from her figure to her height, to all her careers, to her on-again-off-again boyfriend Ken, everybody has an opinion.
Regardless of the fact, getting a Barbie doll made after you is quite the honor, and joining that exclusive list on May 2 was Misty Copeland. The principal ballet dancer at the American Ballet Theatre grew up playing with the iconic doll until ballet took over.
Mattel created Copeland’s doll as part of the “Barbie Sheroes” program, honoring female heroes who break boundaries. Also receiving that honor is Ava DuVernay who had her Barbie released in December last year.
Can you guess who these other celebrities are that have also been honored with their very own doll?
If you would like to get your hands on the Misty Copeland Barbie Doll (which includes a tulle headpiece and ballet shoes) you have to pre-order it on the Barbie Collection website for the price of $29.95.
