Most teen girl’s biggest decision right now is figuring out what dress to wear and how to style their hair for the prom. Malia Obama is not spending her time picking out the perfect dress. She is focusing on her life post The White House. She recently made one of the most important decisions of her life.
Malia has decided to attend to enroll in Harvard University. The White House released a statement from President Obama and The First Lady indicating she will attend their alma mater in 2017 after taking a gap year. Reports indicate this year; the Ivy League school only admitted 5.2 percent of applicants, thus making it the slimmest intake since its inception.
Malia is graduating from the prestigious Sidwell Friends School this May, but is waiting until after her father leaves office to begin higher education. She joins a little over 100 other newly admitted students in taking a year off. Education experts report this is a good idea. Time off from school allows students to travel, explore their passions, and prepare for their upcoming intense course load. Her decision is sure to broaden her influence on her peers and a new generation of girls.
She has become a fashionista and a role model. Time coined Malia the “cultural icon” on their list of Most Influential Teens of 2015. Malia and her sister, Sasha, both made the list in 2014. In a selfie and social media obsessed world, she is creating a new standard showing teen girls that is cool to have beauty and brains.
