After three successful seasons, BET’s hit drama, ‘Being Mary Jane’ is coming back for a fourth season. Starting out as a movie, ‘Being Mary Jane’ caught the attention of many back in early 2013–as it followed the life of a broadcast journalist, Mary Jane Paul (portrayed by Gabrielle Union).
Throughout the short film, we got a glimpse at Paul’s professional and personal life–while adding a little bit of family scandal. Due to the film doing so well, it was later turned into a drama series–which aired back in July of 2013.
Since then, the show has been the highlight of Tuesday nights on BET for three seasons straight. The show stars the undeniably talented Gabrielle Union, and co-stars Margaret Avery, Richard Roundtree, Raven Goodwin, and Richard Brooks. In season three, the show introduced Loretta Devine–portraying the character Cece.
According to Yahoo and other media outlets, the network announced the renewal at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour on Wednesday in Pasadena, CA. Season four will begin production later this year in Atlanta.
‘Being Mary Jane’ is created and produced by Mara Brock Akil (creator of ‘The Game’) and Salim Akil (producer and director of ‘Sparkle’).
We couldn’t be more excited to see Mrs. Gabby Union back on our TV screens!
