From Adele’s “25”, to now August Alsina’s new album, the last part of 2015 is going out with a bang. NOLA Singer, August Alsina just debuted his sophomore album titled, “This Thing Called Life”– and I’ll be first to say, the album is definitely worth buying.
Born in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana, the 23-year-old singer came from a little of nothing. At an early age, Alsina turned to the streets. It wasn’t until the lost of his older brother to gun violence that Alsina realized the streets of New Orleans was not for him anymore. Struggling to find a way out, he turned to his love for music, and uprooted to Atlanta for a better life.
From selling drugs, and being nearly homeless, to now winning awards, and having platinum records, Alsina is already leaving a mark in the industry early on. He says his main goal in his career is to be able to inspire people, and to continue to be a voice for the struggle.
With Alsina’s rich and raw sound, he offers a unique twist on R&B–telling real-life stories through his music. Although he has suffered many trials and tribulations, the singer keeps God first and his faith strong.
After over a year of working on his second album, “This Thing Called Life” hit stores yesterday, December 11th. Prior to the album release, Alsina dropped three singles titled, “Hip Hop”, “Why I Do It”, and his latest, “Song Cry”– in which he opens up about family feud and his thoughts of suicide.
To see where he started from–and to also see his progress from the first album to this one, is beautiful. An artist that is never afraid to express himself–and never afraid to live in his truth, is well respected.
In Alsina’s new album, TTCL, he not only demonstrates vocally growth, but also spiritual and mental growth as well. He speaks on the ups and downs of life, and the good and bad that comes with fame and fortune. Throughout each song, Alsina delivers an in-depth story, as he lets the fans in on a more personal side of himself.
As he goes through the ropes of life–the tears, the heartache, the happiness, the smiles, he ends the album off with a celebratory record, “The Encore”. With features from Anthony Hamilton, Jadakiss, and Chris Brown, the album is truly a body of work that needs to be heard. Simply a very heartfelt journey!
“American Dream” and “Hollywood” would be my top favorites. What are yours? Let us know in the comments.
