Taraji P. Henson is winning right now! Empire is on FIRE and everyone is awaiting season 2 for Cookie Lyon but fans will have something else to look forward to as the star is set to play civil rights activist Ann Atwater in the new drama, The Best of Enemies.
Teaming up with Empire co-creator Danny Strong, Taraji will portray North Carolina civil rights activist Ann Atwater and the decade-long feud between her and former klansman C.P. Ellis. The film is based on Osha Gray Davidson’s book The Best of Enemies: Race and Redemption in the New South.
via Entertainment Weekly:
Atwater fought for over a decade against C.P. Ellis, the Exalted Cyclops of Durham’s Ku Klux Klan. Their feud came to a sudden end in 1971 when a court-ordered school desegregation put the city in chaos, and the two reluctantly agreed to co-chair a two week-long community meeting in hopes of reaching a compromise. The events that followed changed the city, and the two of them forever.
Principal photography is set to begin next year. You go, Taraji! She’s an advocate of civil rights so we know she’ll knock this role out of the park!
