Superheroes reign supreme in the box office and now their influence is invading Silver Screen like never before. With Marvel Comics’ airing “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Agent Carter (premiering in January)” and DC dominating with “Constantine,” “Gotham,” “Arrow,” and “The Flash;” the TV landscape just got a whole lot more science fictional. These series have garnered high ratings anc cult followings for The CW, NBC, Fox, and ABC; thus it is no surprise CBS wants a piece of the superhero pie.
By now you have seen a number of series centered around Superman, arguably the Modern Age’s first superhero. “The Man of Steel,” as we all know him to be is the sole survivor of the dying planet, Krypton, using his amazing abilities in defense of mankind. You are only partly right. There are other survivors of Krypton and one of them is related to Superman–Supergirl! Kara Zor-El, better known as “Supergirl,” is Superman’s cousin and she is getting her own show. She has all of her cousin’s abilities, but the lacks the restraint in using them; giving the facade of being more powerful. For such a momentous role the newtwork has tapped The CW’s “The Original’s” Claire Holt!
Claire is an excellent choice for The Last Daughter of Krypton. She looks the part and is use to playing a character with extraordinary abilities. The series is DC Comics’ first female led series and is produced by Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow). Unsurprisingly there are a few changes to the character’s origin story. She leaves Krypton at the age of twelve and upon arrival on Earth, she is taken in by The Danvers Family. After living for some time in secret she embraces her alien powers and becomes a full fledged superhero. There have been no further announcements concerning the series, but we will keep you posted. Let us just hope the characters are fully developed and realistic. I think characters as realistic as the ones on Gotham with The Flash’s villains’ powers would be awesome!
